Abbot of St. Tikhon's Thanks STIC, Promises Accountability, Transparency
"March 29, 2010
Beloved of God,
Recently, the Special Investigative Committee’s report was published concerning the events at St. Tikhon’s Monastery which transpired here until November, 2008 when I officially took over the Monastery on behalf of the Brotherhood at the request of His Grace, Bishop Tikhon. Since that time, we have labored diligently to investigate the situation here, to assess what needed to be done, and to implement proper internal controls which will prevent problems from arising
in the future. We appreciate the work of the SIC committee and benefited greatly by working with them. At the beginning of 2009, we hired a CPA with a background in corporate audit to review the books for both the Monastery and Bookstore, to clean up our situation financially, and to set us on a proper course towards financial stability and accountability. In the fall of 2009, we hired an experienced financial director to implement proper standards of accounting and procedure. As it is still a work in progress, we are currently working towards an audit for 2010. As it stands now, our financial records have been put in order and we are on schedule for keeping faithful to the goals that were given by Fr. Michael Tassos, the OCA Treasurer in the fall of 2008, at the beginning of our own internal investigation. The Brotherhood of St. Tikhon’s appreciates your continued support during the hour of our difficulties for we know that it is only together as the Church we stand in Christ and divided (by the adversary) we will fall. As the Brotherhood, we continue to strive to uphold our commitment to honesty, love, transparency and seeking the good of the entire Church through our work here at the Monastery and Seminary. Be assured of our prayers and love
for you and your loved ones. We wish you all a blessed Pascha,
Sincerely,
Fr. Igumen Sergius
Abbot of St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Monastery"
