ALASKAN ASSEMBLY POSTPONED INDEFINITELY
In an announcement to the clergy of Alaska, date June 30, 2011, Bishop Benjamin, locum tenens of the Diocese,
responding to “... a request from the area deans through the Chancellor, Archpriest Michael Oleksa,” informed the clergy “...that the Diocesan Assembly that was announced to take place in Anchorage on August 5 is postponed. We will inform you as soon as we can of the date and time of the rescheduled meeting.” No further information was offered.
Last week OCANews.org reported that the name of one of the leading candidates, Fr. Juvenaly Repass, had not been moved forward by the Synod throwing the planned process into question. OCANews.org has also learned that the name of another candidate, Archimandrite Gerasim ( Eliel), was tabled as he has not yet undergone the required psychological testing, nor had he been formally interviewed by the entire Synod.
Latest reports from Alaska confirm that in light of the postponement, the current idea is to have an Administrator appointed, which would allow various new potential episcopal candidates to spend time in the Diocese this coming year. No names were offered as to whom might be included as possible administrators.
