Syosset, NY


The OCA officially announced that the Synod of Bishops and Metropolitan Council  will meet September 3 to 5, 2008 near Syosset.

On September 3, the Synod and Metropolitan Council will meet in a joint session to hear the report of Bishop Benjamin and the Special Investigating Committee (SIC) following a Divine Liturgy.  In the afternoon discussion on the SIC Report will continue, as well as discussion on several legal issues facing the OCA: the Kondratick lawsuit, the Koumentakos case, the EEOC findings regarding Alaska, among others. On September 4, both bodies will meet in separate session. On September 5, they will again meet in a joint session to discuss the upcoming 15th All-American Council.


It was also announced that the Synod will meet for a second fall session October 14 to 16.


In several Town Hall meetings this summer, officers from Syosset have pledged to the crowds that this Report of the Special Investigating Committee, unlike the last, would be published in a timely fashion.

The Special Investigating Committee is meeting Friday, August 22- Sunday, August 24th in Bethesda, MD, to finalize its report for the joint meeting of the Synod and Council, announced earlier today.


• Kodiak, AK


In an address to pilgrims during the St. Herman's pilgrimage, held August 8-11th in Kodiak, Bishop Benjamin of San Francisco confirmed widespread rumours that Metropolitan Herman will undergo back surgery shortly after the joint meeting of the Synod and Metropolitan Council concludes on September 5th.

The Metropolitan suffers from sciatica, which prevented him from fully participating in the St. Herman's pilgrimage. He is also reported to have cancelled his appearance at the Town Hall scheduled during the FOCA convention over the Labor Day weekend.


• Boston, MA


The 14th of 15 scheduled Town Hall meetings was held last night at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Boston MA. Bishop Nikon listened to some 40 persons, whose discussions were led by Fr. Alexander Garklavs, OCA Chancellor. OCANews.org will offer a full report on the meeting on Monday, August 25th.
