"...an autocephalous Church in America will have far more ability to influence nations and gain support for causes relative to our Orthodox Church throughout the world when it speaks as the independent Orthodox Church in America."
That's the whole problem. The Patriarchates don't want to be the recipients of support for a cause, they want to tell their 'children' how much to place on the table.

EXACTLY! For this reason, we Orthodox in America must reject the machinations of the foreign hierarchs. They aren't interested in what is best for N. America. They are interested in how much money can they continue to extort from the Orthodox in N. Am. Throw off the old world bishops; let them take care of their own!
(Editor's note: What you fail to realize is that the money is not extorted: in many cases it is freely given. That is a reality you must deal with - and screaming won't help.)
The new world Hierarchs aren't always looking out for our best interests either. Some do and very well, but others have their own agenda and don't care about us peons.
People praised MP for his stunning address to the EA on the first day. He was doing his usual thing, charming people and pretending that this is what he truly wants. He made comments about us not being little children to be told what to do. Don't be fooled by his words or his so-called charm. He talks out of both sides of his mouth, depending on which day it is and what suits him best. Look at how he has treated our Archdiocese this past year, demoting our bishops, tearing our chancellors to pieces because they did their job right, causing both of them to resign, reinstating our bishops on paper, but kicking them in the rear end when they try to exercise their authority, delivering his self-serving address at the convention, with his pre-prompted inner circle loudly supporting him. He doesn't want the old world to treat us like children, but he treats us like DOGS here, especially his past, present and future seminarians. He's still as old country as he was many years ago when he arrived here as a young man, and he thumbs his nose at the Holy Synod of Antioch while sending our money overseas to them to keep them quiet. Meanwhile, we have clergy who have to work secular jobs to pay their bills, with little time left for ministry, family and their own health.
DON'T TRUST HIM, AND OTHERS, TO DO WHAT'S RIGHT FOR ALL OF US. Hopefully the bishops who truly care can step up to the plate, overcome this problem, and then we'll see truth and honesty in the future United American Orthodox Church here. Otherwise, we're all living a pipe dream.
Have a Blessed Sunday
