Forgive and forget, he repented and confessed. He is forgiven in my eyes and still a bishop worth, who are we...we are all unworthy servants of different levels. Leave this man alone for has only devoted his entire life to the church, plus it wasn't his fault he went...he was pulled along with a family.
The issue with Demetri has nothing to do with forgiving and forgetting. The issue with Demetri is that he sexually assaulted someone and is on a sex offender list. Google his name and see what pops up. That's what kids will do after he visits their parish.
Bishops and priests are supposed to be model Christians. Although they make mistakes and sin, they may, of course, be forgiven by us and by God. Nevertheless, there are certain offenses that disqualify a person from remaining a priest or bishop. Sexual assualt would qualify as one of those. This has nothing to do with forgiving a person, but with the scandal it causes at having a bishop who has done such a thing. Read St Paul's letters to Timothy and you will see that this understanding is biblical.
I had the thought that it would be very difficult for another Christian jurisdiction to "out drama" the actions of +Theodosius and +Herman these past years. I was wrong.
What are these "men" thinking? Bishops are "men" "of" God; not gods themselves. What happens when they are ordained? To me, it's actually an interesting sociological study. Do these "men" come from such poor backgrounds (as many professional athletes) that when they ascend to these positions of "power" they become dictators; greedy; power hungry.
Where is the humility and love?
There is such a cry - more so than ever before in America - for religious leadership. Americans are willing to travel to experience it; search for spiritual understanding and peace in a day and age where it seems that everyone is out for themselves and war is eminent.
How can these men believe that they are doing God's work?
Financial scandals and now this? When will it end? Sadly, I believe that it must get much darker - like who is being investigated by civil authorities at St. Tikhon's; sexual abuse; additional financial misconduct; further lawsuits. So much time and energy - what about ministry.
I long for a living sermon in the modern American church that I can personally look up to and find inner peace from.
The words of Christ are the living sermon that you seek.
You want peace, the kind of peace that is not of this world; you want the peace that causes a transformation in your soul, that inspires you to *walk the talk*. This peace is beyond understanding, because it is the Holy Spirit Himself you seek. He never hides Himself; He makes Himself known, not in understanding, but in a peace beyond undersatnding, even when those who should be making Him known forget Him and betray Him.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
Read (and pray) the Sermon on the Mount and let it change you from within where Christ dwells in your heart by faith.
Never cease doing good; never cease cease doing justice, loving mercy and walking humbly with your God.
The rest of us Arab-Americans weep with pain at what an ailing Metropolitan Philip has brought upon us!
Mustahek to each of the Bishops, Mark, Joseph, Basil and Alexander!
May God help you four bishops to lead us out of the chaos...
I count myself among the thousands who have embraced Holy Orthodoxy and commune in the Antiochian Archdiocese. All of us are members of this Archdiocese by choice and by choice we can just as easily find another jurisdiction in which we can work out our salvation should the insane sideshows now being perpetrated by Englewood continue.
This is not a matter of being dissatisfied with a priest or not liking a decision made by a parish council ect. If however Bp. Dimitri is all of a sudden rehabilitated and a convicted sex offender then has a public ministry in this Archdiocese, I for one will have neither the time nor inclination to tolerate or explain such lunacy.
An awful lot of straws are suddenly being placed upon the Antiochian Camel's back. Hard to tell which one will break it? It is however getting closer.
