1 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. 2 He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. 3 And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’
4 “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”
6 And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
We have got to have an autocephalous church in North America.
The shenanigans we have seen over the past year and a half have probably chased away so many who were ripe for the harvest.
If it weren't for all the lost souls and persecuted clergy from this tragedy, this whole story would be comical and ridiculous.
I really pity those who have placed wealth and power before bringing people to the faith.
Anyway, this forgery is just the beginning of the end for those who support corruption and thuggery in our archdiocese. The party is over. And all the misplaced adoration from his fawning supporters will not save Met. Philip.
What we need is a unified American Orthodox Church organized and governed according to the Holy Canons. Whether it is autocephalous, or autonomous under Moscow (as the original missionary church for North America) or Constantinople (since most of the Orthodox faithful in the U.S. are now in the GOA) is almost a matter of indifference to me--provided any tomos of autonomy limits the prerogatives of the mother church severely enough (say to having a role in the selection of the primate).
Without canonical order, autocephaly would be a disaster.
(Editor's note: Oh, c'mon. The OCA, like England, muddles through..... )
I chose my words carefully. We can't expect a good governance structure from overseas. The Greeks have their own problems with misbehaving bishops ordained by the EP* and Moscow wishes to take over the Orthodox world. We need an atuocephalous Orthodox church that is unified in North America.
*The Greeks are about to be rocked again and it may make the OCA bishops look like choir boys. God is certainly cleaning house for a reason and it is not so we can be governed from oveerseas.
